  • DURATION: Full time position available until June 30th 2024,
    with option of extension dependent on funding

About the role

The LGBTIQA+ Counsellor, Targeted Psychological Services
(TPS) and Better Access (BA), will provide psychological services to improve
mental health and wellbeing for clients within Drummond Streets (DS) Family
Services Model of Practice. The position will work collaboratively with the
Queerspace and Family Violence Response team who provide a range of family
violence, mental health, AOD, disability, mentoring, youth, counselling and
case management programs for LGBTIQA+ individuals and their families.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide sensitive and affirmative psychological services to
    clients under Better Access and/or TPS programs, including to clients from
    communities including LGBTIQ+, POC and QTPOC, refugee and asylum seeker
    communities, and others diverse communities who are disproportionately affected
    by discrimination and disadvantage.
  • Conduct bio psycho-social assessment of risk and protective
    factors associated with mental health outcomes in these communities and develop
    and implement individual case plans in collaboration with the client.
  • Utilise clinically appropriate assessment measures to inform
    treatment and measure outcomes.
  • Provide appropriate referral to both internal and external
    support agencies to meet bio psycho-social needs identified through the
    assessment process.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of bio
    psycho-social group interventions.

About you 

  • Demonstrated ability to provide evidence based focused
    psychological therapies and strategies with positive outcomes for LGBTIQA+ individuals
    and families
  • Highly skilled and experienced mental health practitioner
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of child and adolescent
    development, whole of family practice, recovery-oriented trauma informed
    practice and the impact of structural disadvantage on individuals, families and
    communities, such as racism, sexism, Islamophobia, homophobia or transphobia

Selection Criteria, all of the following must be addressed in your application
to be considered.

Essential

  • Full registration as a psychologist or clinical psychologist
    or mental health social worker eligible to deliver under these programs.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in providing psychological
    interventions to individuals and/or children under the TPS and Better Access
    programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide evidence based focused
    psychological therapies and strategies with positive outcomes for LGBTIQA+
    clients.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs, issues and
    sensitivities of people from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal, LGBTIQA+
    and culturally and linguistically diverse people and communities
  • Demonstrated capacity to work within integrated,
    collaborative and systemic approaches
  • Demonstrated organisational skills including the ability to
    meet deadlines and prioritise work tasks
  • Eligibility to apply for a Medicare Provider Number.
  • Identify as belonging to LGBTIQA+ communities, as well as
    other communities with whom DS assertively engages
  • Victorian driver’s license
