You may have heard that the Department of Communities Tasmania will be disbanded by 30 September 2022. Please be assured that the services that Communities Tasmania provides to the Tasmanian public will be ongoing and dispersed between existing Tasmanian Government agencies and a new Housing Tasmania statutory authority. Any advertised roles and contracts will be honoured in line with current Tasmanian State Service legislation.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Salary: $ 96,689.00 to $ 107,629.00 pro rata, per annum + 10% Superannuation
  • Classification: Allied Health Professional Level 3
  • Award/Agreement: 
  • Location: Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2019
  • Hours of Work: Fixed term full-time day work (part-time hours may be considered by negotiation) commencing ASAP until approximately 02 June 2023.
  • Please note: Other fixed-term full time and part-time vacancies that may arise in the future may also be filled from this process.

About the Team

The Children’s Advice and Referral Service is a contact point for people seeking information, advice and assistance if they have concerns about a child and their family. The Child Safety and Wellbeing Liaison Officer facilitates the provision of information, advice and assistance between the Children’s Advice and Referral Service and regional services to promote community education and referral, to ensure that the right intervention and assistance is delivered.

This role will have a focus on youth across the state with particular focus on the interface between specialist homelessness services and the Children’s Advice and Referral Service, joint planning and engagement of young people and their families in this process.

About You

In addition to meeting the essential requirements, to succeed long term in this role you should possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Skills and experience in working with children and families at risk, including the ability to provide advice on complex and critical cases.
  • Comprehensive understanding and application of theory relevant to the development and delivery of child safety and family support services.
  • Understanding of the social, emotional and health needs of children at risk of abuse and/or neglect.

Duties Include

  • Deliver, in partnership, a strengths-based response at the regional level where a child is considered to be at risk and where work with the family and their networks is necessary to build safety for the child within their family context.
  • Develop and maintain local relationships and utilise local knowledge in ensuring best assistance can be provided to children and their families.
  • Provide consultation, information and assistance to the Children’s Advice and Referral Service on referral options for vulnerable children and families in relation to appropriate programs, services, resources and information available to support families in their local community.

Essential Requirements:

  • Satisfactory completion of an appropriate course of study at a recognised tertiary institution, and registered with the relevant Board or, in the case of unregulated professions, eligible for membership of the relevant professional association.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (Employment type)

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  • COVID-19 Vaccination: As a result of a risk assessment process the Head of Agency considered where vaccination is a necessary control to protect the health and safety of workers and the community and therefore it has been determined that prior to appointment to these duties a person to is to provide evidence that they are vaccinated against the disease known as COVID-19.
