 About the program:

We are a free service, funded by the Department of Social Services to provide early-intervention support to children and young people, aged 0-18, who are showing early signs of mental health concerns, or are at risk of developing a mental health concern. We support children and young people who are willing and able to access support around their mental health and well-being alongside a parent or carer who can proactively support the intervention.

 

About the role:

The purpose of the Child, Youth and Family Practitioner is to support the mental health needs of the child or young person, using strategies to meet their needs and those of their family.  This is achieved through providing client-centred, family focussed interventions, which are; age appropriate, focussed on emotional resilience and skill building, and address low level mental health concerns. The role provides a holistic assessment with the child or young person and their families to enable the delivery of appropriate interventions and support, which may also include referrals to other service providers for additionally identified needs.  An element of community development and the facilitation of group programs and seminars may also be required as part of the role.

The Child, Youth and Family Practitioner position is part-time, working 4 days per week (days negotiable), and is based at Southport. This is a fixed term  maternity relief contract until 30 June 2023.  

The outreach nature of the role requires most interactions to occur within the clients home, school or community and as such travel across the Gold Coast region is required.

To be successful the candidate will have:

  1. Completed tertiary degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or other relevant degree;
  2. Relevant experience working in a clinical or therapeutic role with children and young people aged 0-18, and knowledge of child and adolescent mental health;
  3. Demonstrated ability to work confidently with family systems, providing advice and guidance around basic parenting and age-appropriate development;
  4. Experience working from a strengths-based framework and utilising a client-centred and family-focused approach;
  5. Demonstrated skill in completing holistic assessments and delivery of interventions for children and young people who present with low-level mental health concerns;
  6. Demonstrated ability to work confidently with family systems, providing advice and guidance around basic parenting and age-appropriate development; and
  7. Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and referral pathways with other service providers and stakeholders.

  • Have a current driver’s license and reliable, fully insured motor vehicle;
  • Hold or be able to obtain a current Working with Children Check; and
  • Have the ability to pass suitability checks (e.g. criminal history).
