About Us

The Road Trauma Support Group (RTSG) is a newly formed not-for-profit organisation that supports families dealing with the death of a loved one due to a criminal act on metropolitan and regional NSW roads.  Founded in 2021, our mission is to work with all key stakeholders to be an active advocate for reform and for safer roads in NSW.

We focus on:

  • providing counselling, support and information to families affected by the road trauma death of a loved one
  • actively pursuing reforms to the criminal justice system
  • promoting educational activities and public awareness campaigns, and changing the language associated with road trauma deaths in NSW.

 

About the Role

As part of a small team, this role is responsible for delivering counselling, support services and information to family members who are dealing with the death of a loved one due to the criminal actions of a driver on NSW roads.  You will need to build relationships with other support services throughout NSW and develop new program initiatives.  Over time, you will be responsible for building and managing a team of dedicated counsellors and support workers.  You will be required to present to internal and external stakeholders on topics related to our counselling and support services.

 

You will have:

  • tertiary qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, Chaplaincy or equivalent
  • eligibility for membership of relevant professional body (eg. PACFA, ACA, AASW).
  • experience working with issues of grief and trauma
  • ability to source and maintain a strong referral network, including in regional areas
  • demonstrated ability to work independently
  • experience managing a small team
  • confidence in a leadership role
  • desire to work in a start-up environment, requiring adaptability, innovation and enthusiasm
  • significant experience providing counselling via phone, video and outreach
  • experience facilitating support group meetings
  • ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel to regional NSW
  • current driver’s licence, National Police Check and Working with Children Check
