The Australian Refugee Association Inc. (ARA) is a community-based organisation providing settlement, migration and other forms of assistance to refugees, migrants and other people of concern. As a member of the ARA team, you will be making a difference in the lives of individuals and families as they re-establish themselves in a new home. 

ARA is seeking an experienced, dedicated and qualified Family Safety Manager to lead our Family Safety Team. As the Family Safety Manager you will be responsible for the oversight of several complex and critical programs related to the safety and wellbeing of families from new arrival and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and will provide advice, support and supervision to a small team ensuring that current programs are delivered effectively. 

As the Family Safety Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing management and delivery of the family safety programs and the development and achievement of organisational goals.
  • Providing leadership, advice, and support to staff within the team as required and in collaboration with their direct supervisors.
  • Ensuring adherence with contractual, performance, legal and quality standards for family safety programs and development of relevant organisational and program documents and reports.
  • Promoting a client centred and professional culture which is both responsive and culturally sensitive to the needs of CALD clients. 
  • Identifying, implementing and developing new initiatives which meet the needs of people from a refugee/CALD background with a particular focus on developing programs that focus on reducing family violence and improving family outcomes among new arrival communities.

As the Family Safety Manager, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, counselling (or equivalent qualification)  
  • Strong case management and client assessment skills with a sound understanding of current social work practices, child centred practices and the Safe and Together Model. 
  • Proven experience in providing supervision, counselling, group work, social work and trauma informed practice
  • Experience working in and advance understanding of the current legal environment in relation to family and domestic violence. 
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience managing client centred programs and initiatives.
  • Minimum of five years’ management experience.
  • In depth understanding of the challenges faced by people from migrant and refugee backgrounds, including those related to family safety, wellbeing and relationships
  • A commitment to providing client-centred, trauma informed and culturally safe services 

The Family Safety Manager will also have 

  • Valid National Police Clearance 
  • DHS Working with Children Check and Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Child Safe Environment Training and Responding to Abuse and Neglect Training Certificates (or be willing to obtain)
  • Evidence of full (three doses) COVID19 Vaccination 
  • A valid full driver’s licence

The successful candidate will receive ongoing support from a diverse team and access to ongoing professional development opportunities and will form part of ARA’s growing Family Safety Team.

The Family Safety Manager is a part time (3 days per week) contract until June 2024 with the potential for extension upon satisfactory performance. Additional hours may be negotiated subject to funding. This is a Level 7 position under the SCHCDS Industry Award.

The role is based at the ARA Salisbury Office with some outreach and out of office work required across suitable locations within the Adelaide metro region.
