We deliver social services that are shaped around individual needs and goals to help create positive futures built on independence and esteem.  We deliver services in Aged Care, Child & Family, Financial Health, Mental Health & NDIS.  We operate two social enterprises, a community child care centre and a psychology practice.  We have been in operation for over 150 years.

The Role

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Financial Counsellor to join our Financial Health Services team. In this role, you will support our clients who are experiencing financial difficulties by empowering them to develop skills and strategies to address their financial problems. Your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide effective financial counselling services using a client-centred case management approach. 
  • Undertake all associated administrative tasks that support the financial counselling service.
  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders in the community. 
  • Provide professional supervision to less experienced Financial Counsellors (if certified to do so). 
  • Participate in continuing professional development to maintain, develop and enhance knowledge of best practice. 

About You

As a Financial Counsellor, you will have a client-centred approach, with the ability to build open and trusting relationships to empower clients to address their financial problems. You will be able to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds, including culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, in a non-judgemental manner. You will enjoy working independently as well as part of a team, and have the ability to engage effectively with other agencies and organisations to ensure holistic service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

You will have:

  • Completed a Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling) / Diploma of Financial Counselling 
  • Membership with the SA Financial Counsellors Association (SAFCA) as either Full Member or Associate Membership
  • Experience working within a not-for-profit organisation
  • Financial literacy or budget help experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues people experiencing financial hardship face
  • Competence in the Microsoft Office suite of programs and cloud based software
  • A current South Australian Driver’s Licence
  • A current DHS Working With Children Check, or willing to obtain one at your own cost prior to commencement of employment
  • Under an Emergency Management Direction currently in force under the South Australian Public Health Act, all staff, volunteers and students on placement who work at the Bowden Site of UCWB or who work in in-home and community aged care and disability support work are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Location

This role is based at Bowden, just a short walk to the popular Plant 3 and Plant 4 entertainment complex on Gibson Street, however you will also be required to work at various sites in the metropolitan area.
