The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health & Recovery Specialist to join our Medical and Recovery Team within Claims on a Permanent Full-Time basis. In this role you have the opportunity to work from home, with a requirement to attend the office on an ad hoc basis. The Mental Health & Recovery Specialist role is pivotal in achieving Resolution Life’s goals and is focused on providing a high level of subject matter expertise to claims teams on understanding clinical features of mental illnesses and injuries. Apart from sharing expertise, the role also involves rehabilitation and recovery service coordination, disability management advice and coaching for claims teams. The Mental Health & Recovery Specialist plays a key role in identifying the customer’s recovery needs and developing innovative strategies to facilitate recovery and return to work within the earliest realistic timeframe for customers experiencing a Mental Illness.
The Mental Health & Recovery Specialist will be the first point of escalation for medical, functional and occupational related issues for the Case Manager on their mental health claims. They are responsible for providing clinical subject matter expertise and recommending the involvement of other internal and external specialists. The Mental Health & Recovery Specialist will contribute to identifying ways to enhance the current recovery model to maximise the opportunities to drive improvements in Customer capacity and return to work outcomes for mental health conditions and related injury management.
The Mental Health & Recovery Specialist will be a key support person for our Claims teams with Mental Health conditions. With the overall rate of mental illness on the rise in Australia and New Zealand, this role is vital to improving the claims experience for our customers. You will be responsible for recommending the involvement of other internal and external specialists and will contribute to identifying ways to enhance the current recovery model for customers suffering from Mental Health conditions. This includes continual capability uplift of our Case Managers and Recovery Specialists by partnering with our internal Psychiatrist (Specialist Medical Officer) to complete training sessions to Claims teams on Mental Health conditions and how we can assist our customers with their mental illness. The successful candidate will work closely with Team Managers, the Specialist Medical advice team and Specialist Medical and Rehabilitation Services
Your Story
To successfully execute all components of this role, the candidate should have, or be able to develop, a solid working knowledge of the following:
- Provide a holistic review of cases, incorporating all available information, with a view to effectively advise and support Case Managers on strategies to assist Customers in returning to work.
- Is a subject matter expert on Mental Health conditions and can provide education and advice to the claims teams
- Manages duration control, implementing recovery and RTW strategies to effectively control claim duration (Particularly mental health claims)
- Ability to anticipate, prioritise and deal with issues proactively and decisively, to ensure work is completed within agreed timeframes
- Ability to balance analytical skills whilst appreciating the practical and commercial considerations of implementing programs and initiatives
- Ability to work autonomously and provide effective business solutions which are aligned with business expectations (Particularly with mental health claims)
- Contributing to the development of impactful case management plans by reviewing and coaching toward the development of an evidence based strategy for managing the case toward the optimal claim outcome
- Correctly interprets information from a range of sources, including medical, bio psychosocial, financial, legal, investigative, occupational, and functional
- Prepares and actively contributes to Roundtable strategy discussions, external conferences and Employer Claims Reviews, as required
- Managing financial outcomes of external rehabilitation providers to ensure that a targeted approach to rehabilitation spend is maintained.
Experience
- Previous experience working as a Psychologist or Mental Health Nurse (required)
- Detailed knowledge of rehabilitation process and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in applying targeted rehabilitation strategies
- Previous experience in a rehabilitation or clinical setting (specialising in mental illness)
- Some exposure to strategically assessing medical and/or disability claims an advantage
- Extensive experience in dealing with complex mental health cases
