The Byron Hospital Mental Health Unit – Tuckeroo is seeking a Health Education Officer to provide individual and group support to consumers and carers by working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient centred recovery. Developing supportive empathetic relationships with consumers based on Lived Experience of Mental Health Issues by empowering consumers with skills and strategies to aid their personal recovery.


If you have/are:

  • Personal experience of mental health issues and recovery, understanding issues faced by people with mental health issues and using recovery principles. Ability and willingness to share personal lived experience of mental health issues and recovery in a professional manner
  • Recognised relevant minimum Certificate IV Qualification and work experience relevant to this position
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of consumer participation and partnership, Person Centred Care, Trauma Informed Care, Consumer led Recovery, rights and responsibilities for consumers, NSW Mental Health Act 2007 and Amendments, National Mental Health Standards (2010)
  • Demonstrated experience working alongside consumers to develop skills that will enable a return to successful community living and linking consumers to local community networks, services, resources and activities
