Program Facilitator – Therapeutic surf programs Ocean Mind

JOB DESCRIPTION

Ocean Mind is a community surf movement providing evidence-based therapeutic surfing programs to young people aged 8-18 years old experiencing mental health issues, disabilities, and social isolation; aiming to create life-changing experiences for these young people.

We are recruiting for several Program Facilitators to join our growing team on the Surf Coast in Anglesea and Ocean Grove. The Program Facilitator delivers a range of therapeutic surfing programs to groups and individuals, including those experiencing mental health challenges and neuro diversity.

Ocean Mind provides multiple services including free and fee-for-service programs, and in this exciting role you will have the opportunity to deliver all of them. You will  not only facilitate our therapeutic surfing programs, but form relationships with young people and provide meaningful education about the ocean, surfing and mental health and wellbeing.

This role would suit someone who is looking to be challenged and develop their skills in a new environment. This position will provide growth and the chance to work in a small but passionate team that values innovation, wellbeing and creativity, so we’re after someone who can contribute to this culture in our workplace.

We’re looking for people who have a passion for the ocean or surfing, experience working either in social work, youth work, disability work etc and a willingness to acquire your surf coach qualifications. You must be committed to our values – empowerment, connection, sustainability and stoke. The job also requires a certain level of fitness and comfortability of being in the water, and while being a pro surfer isn’t a requirement, someone who is at least a beginner is desired.

We have four casual Program Facilitator positions available. We are looking for two people to work all day Friday and Saturday and two people to work all day Sunday and Monday. The work is generally over six to eight week blocks during the school term, with the opportunity to pick up extra work if you’d like it. Orientation for the role will commence in August, with program delivery to start in late September.

Ocean Mind offers a range of benefits and you will join a diverse and inclusive organisation. You will receive an above-award based salary, access to professional development and regular supervision.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Experience working or volunteering professionally in the human services field and/or a qualification (or working towards) in human services
  • Up to date (or ability to acquire) qualifications in surf coaching, bronze medallion and first aid
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly with other people, in particular children and young people.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Application Details:

  • To apply, submit your resume and a cover letter, including response to the selection criteria.
  • If you can’t meet the selection criteria but think you have something else to offer, get in touch as we’d still love to hear from you.
  • Closing date Sunday 14 August 2022.
