Social Emotional Wellbeing Cultural Lead Geraldton Aboriginal Medical Service Inc. (GRAMS)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service is seeking to fill the above position in its Clinic in Geraldton.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Aboriginality is an essential criterion and is provided for in accordance with section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety including an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Knowledge of evidence based and culturally appropriate approaches to mental health, SEWB and AOD issues within Aboriginal communities. 
  • High level knowledge of Australian Aboriginal culture, history, understanding of impact of colonisation and how this history relates to current social, emotional and health issues for Aboriginal communities, families and individuals. 
  • Ability to work with Indigenous people from all backgrounds 
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety including an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including negotiation and consultation skills and the ability to proactively establish and sustain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Proven ability to solve problems by analysing issues, identifying options and selecting the most appropriate solution. 
  • Effective organisational and time management skills including the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • The ability to travel throughout the geographic service area of Midwest, Murchison and Gascoyne. 
  • Ability and willingness to work outside normal business hours.

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience in similar role.
  • Developed computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Broad knowledge of local health service providers both government and non-government.

It’s essential that the candidate has an unrestricted “C” class drivers licence and the ability to pass a Police Clearance and Drug and Alcohol testing. Aboriginality is an essential criterion and is provided for in accordance with section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
