About the role

Mater currently has an exciting opportunity for a Social Work Assistant to join the Mater at Home team based at the South Brisbane Campus. This vacancy is fixed term full time (38 hours per week) until June 2023.

Salary range: $29.97 – $31.12 (Operational Officer Level 3) per hour plus superannuation + salary packaging access up to $15,9000 per year

What you’ll be doing

The Social Work Assistant works in partnership with the Social Workers in delivering competent and professional assistance to clients, families and carers as part of the Mater at Home Social Work team. Specifically, this position also provides assistance within Mater Aged Placement Service (MAPS), which provides clients with placement support when transitioning to residential aged care.

As a valued member of the team you will:

  • Communicate, liaise and assist clients and families with paperwork and processes in collaboration with the Social Workers.
  • Liaise with external providers including community organisations, and government/non-government services.
  • Assist with the MAPS process by identifying suitable aged care facilities and completing required paperwork for applications in consultation with the client, their family/carers and the lead Social Worker.
  • Provide ongoing communication and liaison with the client, family and aged care facilities until a suitable placement is secured.
  • Support the Social Work and broader Mater at Home Allied Health team with booking home visits and supporting with allied health assistant tasks as needed.
  • Attend and participate in departmental and team meetings, relevant professional development activities and mandatory education.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Well-developed research and investigative skills required to search and summarise information.
  • Highly competent organisation and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work as part of a team.
  • An interest in and prior knowledge of the residential aged care process would be well regarded.

Favourable consideration will be given if you have or are in the process of obtaining relevant Certificate III or IV qualifications in either Health Services Assisting, Allied Health Assisting, Health Administration, or Community Services Work, Aged Care, Disabilities or similar and/or have experience working as an assistant in a healthcare environment.
