JOB DESCRIPTION

Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Services is seeking a part-time Social Worker for 30 hrs. per week, (Remuneration SCHCADS AWARD 4 to 4.4 level based on experience). Salary packaging and other benefits are offered. 

The Social Worker will support and assist the Mental Health and FDV Support Services team with administration, program, project coordination and will provide appropriate support to clients who are experiencing difficult personal situations.

About the Organisation: 

Ishar has been in existence for over 25 years and is an organisation of women supporting women, with an all-female Board of Management, and all-female staff assisting women and their families from across the world. 

Ishar provides health and wellbeing services for women, particularly those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, using a ‘Social Model of Health’ in which the presenting ‘medical’ condition is not separated from the interconnections of personal, social, economic, cultural, age and gender-related problems. Women are provided with information, advice, counselling, training, advocacy, and/or support so they are empowered to deal with their own problems. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assessing, counselling, and offering support to clients
  • Facilitating client access to support services in the community.
  • Liaison with relatives, colleagues, and other professionals for client case management
  • Assess clients’ needs, situations, strengths, and support networks to determine their goals
  • Develop individual care plans to improve clients well-being
  • Maintain constant communication with clients while addressing their concerns and goals and helping them keep a positive attitude 
  • Help clients adjust to changes and challenges in their lives, such as illness, divorce, or unemployment
  • Help clients work with government agencies to apply for and receive benefits such as Medicare, Centrelink, Department of Housing, etc.
  • Evaluate services provided to ensure that they are effective
  • Maintain accurate records and report on clients’ status and update on Client Management System 
  • Respond to crisis situations 
  • Promoting the Mental Health Services (contact the hospital, services providers, special needs school, etc…) 
  • Group coordination under the direction of the Manager.
  • Plan and develop educational activities.
  • Plan and coordinate respite activities
  • Coordinate and assist support workers.
  • Accompany the support worker to Bentley group
  • Responsible for the group room setting up
  • Responsible for the initial client intake form
  • Responsible for recording the clients’ attendance
  • Accreditation Support 
  • Maintain client records 
  • Generate reports 
  • Manage Petty Cash/acquit for the bookkeeper
  • Assist Manager with the collation of statistics for monthly reports, annual report, and other reports as necessary.
  • Responsible for the program supplying.
  • Attend relevant interagency meetings and liaise with agencies and clients
  • Assist Manager with general administration duties 
  • Attend regular staff meetings and team meetings.

Essential 

  1. Tertiary education to degree level with relevant experience in Social Work. Proof of registration with a relevant board with a minimum 1-year experience.
  2. Demonstrate working with the organization’s values and ability to demonstrate. 
  3. Demonstrate experience of working with women facing challenging situations.
  4. Demonstrate excellent knowledge of referring system 
  5. Experience in planning and implementing educational/support groups.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to the workplace.
  7. Well organised with an ability to meet deadlines through effective planning.
  8. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  9. Experience in working with women from a CaLD background.

Essential Requirements

  1. Current Police Clearance (one-year validity period is acceptable).
  2. Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s License and own road-worthy insured vehicle.
