Women’s Community Shelters Program and Support Worker
Allawah House is a partnership between Women’s Community Shelters and Pacific Link Housing that will deliver transitional housing and support to women over 55 at risk of homelessness or leaving domestic and family violence. Women’s Community Shelters is seeking a purpose driven and self-motivated individual with a passion for working with and empowering women, to deliver onsite support to residents of Allawah House.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: East Gosford
Responsible to: WCS Meanwhile Use Program Coordinator
Responsible for: No staff management. May be required to coordinate volunteers.
Hours: 20 hours per week (flexible)
Position grade: SCHCADS Crisis Accommodation Employee, Level 2, Pay Point 1
Key duties:
- Deliver tailored casework services and advocacy support to residents of Allawah House.
- Conduct intake assessments with new residents of Allawah House.
- Cooperate with Pacific Link Housing to support the effective functioning of Allawah House and the sustainment of tenancies.
- Build and manage relationships with local organisations and services for the purpose of making and receiving referrals and promoting community support for Allawah House.
- Coordinate volunteers to deliver community, education and wellbeing activities as required.
Essential criteria:
- Previous casework experience in the community services sector, preferably providing support to women with an experience of homelessness or domestic and family violence.
- Knowledge around current issues and best practice in supporting vulnerable people with an experience of trauma.
- Demonstrated ability to work constructively and collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including staff, clients, local service and community partners, and government agencies.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to demonstrate genuine empathy and compassion.
- The right to live and work in Australia.
- Vaccinated against Covid-19.
Desirable criteria:
- Prior experience working with women over the age of 55 experiencing homelessness.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering community programs.
- Current first aid certificate or capacity to acquire one before commencement.
- Experience using online case management systems e.g. CIMS.
- Understanding of program evaluation and outcomes measurement principles.
- Local to the Central Coast.
- Current NSW Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of networks, agencies and services and their role in supporting those that have experienced domestic and family violence or homelessness.
- Proven ability to undertake activities which require the exercising of judgment and ability to contribute critical knowledge and skills where procedures are not clearly defined.
- Strong time-management and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to work independently and to be accountable for individual performance whilst working as part of a team.
- Tertiary qualifications with substantial experience or relevant study with a combination of experience, expertise and competence sufficient to perform the duties required at this level.
- Proficient working knowledge of computer applications such as MS Word and Excel.
