Youth Development Officer

  • 12-month temporary full-time role
  • Salary commencing at $77, 278.91 per annum plus 11% superannuation (commensurate with experience)
  • Monthly RDO accrual available and great Council benefits!

The Opportunity

This position will see you building capacity, resilience and belonging in young people aged 12-25 in Moonee Valley by creating opportunities to participate, connect, influence, and generate local pride! Reporting directly to the Team Leader Young Communities, you will engage and support young people by developing, implementing, and evaluating youth-led arts and events programs, social media engagement and communication plans.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, evaluate and report on place-based and municipal-wide programs, projects and events for young people;
  • Work flexibly and appropriately to support young people from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTIQA+, culturally and linguistically diverse and vulnerable young people, and those with disabilities. Use a range of participatory engagement processes with young people that provide genuine opportunities to influence and be involved in decision-making processes; and,
  • Provide short-term individual support, including referral and advocacy with and for young people;

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications in related fields such as Youth Work, Social Work, Community Development, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating youth-led programs and events;
  • Relevant knowledge of the latest youth participation models and trends, and barriers to youth participation;
  • Excellent communication skills, and skills in developing and maintaining partnerships and stakeholder relationships; and,
  • Ability to work after hours regularly, and on weekends occasionally, to meet the needs of young people accessing the service.
