The Position

St John of God Social Outreach provides a range of no or low-​cost mental health, homelessness and capacity building services to over 5500 people in the community across Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales and the Asia Pacific, particularly in areas where we have identified gaps in service provision. ​

Horizon House delivers early intervention and case management strategies that focus on supporting residents to set and achieve education and/or vocational goals. All young people who live in a Horizon House must be engaged in education, training or employment as part of their journey towards independence and commit to participating in a life skills program. We also provide individualised case management, general counseling and help to reconcile young people with their families when it’s safe and appropriate to do so.

St John of God Social Outreach has an exciting opportunity available for a reliable Youth Residential Caregiver to join our Bunbury Horizon House team on a casual basis.

Youth Residential Caregivers work in a residential care setting alongside the Support Coordinator, to provide intensive support for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Youth Residential Caregivers provide advocacy & support to residents, as well as coordinating, developing and implementing Independent Life Skills Programmes, in order to meet the individualised needs of the residents throughout their stay at Horizon House. 

Applicants must be available to work shifts across 7 days of the week, including weekends and public holidays on a rotating roster. Shifts will also include residential sleep overs. 

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Minimum Certificate IV (or working towards) in Youth Work or similar.
  • Extensive experience in an area related to youth work and/or case management.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of the special needs of adolescents and trauma-informed care together with recent relevant experience working with at-risk young people is essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Privacy Legislation and Occupational, Health & Safety Act Regulations.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Adhere to pre-employment immunisation policy and possession of a current:
    • Unrestricted State Driver’s License
    • First Aid Certificate
    • State Working with Children Card
    • Commitment to and participation in ongoing development on skills and knowledge in working within a therapeutic service model.

  • Salary: $36.00 – $38.50 + 11% superannuation + 25% loading
