JOB DESCRIPTION

Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd is an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation currently seeking to fill the following vacancy within our Child, Youth and Family Support Services division.  The Kalwun Child, Youth and Family Support Services division administers the Family Wellbeing Service, Family Participation Program, Early Learning Program and the Kinship and Foster Care programs within the South East Qld region.

About the Role 

Working with children and young people, the Youth Wellbeing Worker will enhance opportunities for these individuals to participate in activities that support the development of self-worth, community inclusion and family relationships. The role requires a passion for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and a strong interest in the development of the holistic person, and a personal interest in health, spirituality, culture and personal well-being. This is a full time role (Monday to Friday) based at our Burleigh office. Only female applicants will be considered for this position – please see Additional Information section below.

Position Duties

  • Assist with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, who are at risk of entering (or already in contact with) the Youth Justice system and promote stronger attachments and promotion of better life choices to enable the young person’s potential.
  • Ensure delivery of support and coordination services are consistent with the developed and agreed Family Care Plan including supporting and assisting children and young people with attending health and non-health appointments
  • Assist Family Wellbeing Workers with home visits of families, children and young people
  • Working with a large range of stakeholders: parents, young people, vulnerable families, kinship/foster carers, Youth Justice, Queensland Police, Department of Child Safety, other essential service providers
  • Deliver planned recreation and skill based youth programs (i.e. sports, arts, life skills etc.)
  • Deliver support which ensures meaningful engagement in all decision making, with a bias toward building individual capability to participate in and lead the coordination of their own supports
  • Implement principles and strategies to role model, mentor and teach young people necessary life skills

Essential Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated case management or youth work experience.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the appropriate legislation, case management practice, and the ability to adhere to policy and procedures.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to demonstrate experience in liaising with ATSI young people, families and community.
  4. Ability to maintain positive, effective working relationships with colleagues, peers, and relevant stakeholders in a wide range of government, business and community organisations.
  5. Demonstrated ability to positively work as part of a small team with minimal supervision and in an environment requiring flexibility.
  6. Ability to use Microsoft office, along with experience in electronic databases and case file noting.

Additional Information

  • This position requires the successful applicant to satisfy a national criminal history check and hold a current drivers’ license.
  • A Blue Card for working with children is a mandatory requirement. The ‘No Card No Start’ law applies to this position – a Blue Card must be obtained prior to commencement.
