JOB DESCRIPTION

The Position

Marist180’s Unaccompanied Humanitarian Minors (UHM) program supports children and young people who have travelled to Australia without parents or family support under the Australian Government’s Humanitarian Program. Our approach adapts and refines our Out of Home Care model to provide a safe home environment, while at the same time, meeting the unique developmental, cultural and care needs of young people aged 4-18 who have arrived as refugees from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan and Iran. Our multi-lingual, multi-faith team applies a therapeutic approach to care connecting each young person with their culture and religion while also encouraging them to engage with their new Australian home. We are looking for Youth Worker/Carers who want to empower the lives of young people in their community. 

On your first day you will be supported with a thorough induction so you can do your job.

As a Youth Worker, you are expected to:

  • Provide day to day supervision, and support to young people
  • Work autonomously and contribute to an effective team and safe living environment
  • Maintain communication and positive relationships with the young people in care
  • Work within the Therapeutic Framework in the daily lives of Current Young Person towards improving permanency pathway.
  • Implement and monitor individual plans
  • Complete progress records as per Marist180 procedures, including producing accurate and timely reports, reading communications, entering timesheets, updating financial records

As Marist180 employees, you are required to have:

  • Cert IV in Youth Work, Community Services or similar; or relevant experience if studying
  • Minimum 1 year experience working hands on with young people in a residential setting
  • The ability to engage clients positively while maintaining own boundaries
  • Current and valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to work various shifts including morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, and sleepover shifts
  • NSW Working with Children Check for a paid employee
  • Current Driver’s Licence
