Carbal Medical Services (Carbal) is a Not-for-Profit, charitable organisation that provides health services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander community in and around Toowoomba and Warwick.
The core function of Carbal Medical Services is to provide medical services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people delivered through two medical practices and many community programs. Covering the Darling Downs and Southern Downs regions including Goondiwindi, this position will be full-time and based in our Toowoomba Outreach Health Support Services, reporting directly to the General Manager – Outreach Health Support Services.
Position Overview
Are you a compassionate and dedicated Outreach Youth Support Worker with a passion for making a difference in the lives of others? This role will see you working as part of an outreach support team to deliver exceptional standards of care to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders and you will be motivated and have a genuine desire to Close the Gap in Indigenous health outcomes.
Your brief is broad and extends across all aspects of the organisation. Your skills as an Outreach Youth Support Worker will ensure smooth and efficient function of the outreach health support services and have you provide exceptional care and support for some of our most vulnerable people in their homes and in the community.

You will be supported directly by the General Manager – Outreach Health Support Services, along with the multidisciplinary team within the program, and the other health programs within Carbal.
Key duties will include but not be limited to:
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to address mental health issues in the community
- Provide personalised support to community members, facilitating access to necessary resources and services
- Demonstrate drive, motivation, and a genuine desire to empower community members towards independence and resilience
- Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Liaise closely with GPs, Aboriginal Health Workers, and other healthcare professionals
- Cultivate and maintain respectful and meaningful relationships within the community
Essential
- Experience in effectively engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, coupled with a deep understanding and appreciation of their cultures
- Demonstrated knowledge of the health and social challenges prevalent in Indigenous communities
- Possession of an Open C Class driver license, Blue Card, and willingness to undergo a Police Check
- Proven ability to work harmoniously as part of a team
- Qualification as a Mental Health and/or Aboriginal Health Worker would be highly advantageous
Desirable
- Ability to think quickly and provide effective solutions, with knowledge of relevant referral organisations
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, problem-solving skills, adaptability, and resilience
- Capacity to rapidly acquire an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture if not already possessed
- Effective self-management of workflow and reporting capabilities
