JOB DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Women’s Advocate/Counsellor who has exceptional skills and knowledge in the area of Domestic and Family Violence. This role forms a pivotal part of our Men Choosing Change program with a focus on perpetrator accountability in ensuring the safety for women, children and family members. 

The role requires the provision of ongoing engagement, , risk assessments and planning in relation to safe and wellbeing, psycho – education and support. In including making time – sensitive referrals to relevant support services relative to identified needs and working collaboratively with team member members and other agencies/organisations to develop effective service responses keeping men accountable. This position is 3 days per week.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Bachelor) in a relevant human services field and registration or eligible membership with an appropriate professional body (e.g. AASW, APS, PACFA Member Association) will be highly regarded.
  • Substantial experience, skills and knowledge in the area of Domestic and Family Violence and its impacts on woman, children and family members.
  • Ability to meet the Perpetrator Intervention Services Requirements 2022 relating to the advocate role
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Significant knowledge and skilled application of frameworks and practice models which encourage support the safety of woman children and family members
  • Strong therapeutic background incorporating advanced counselling skills to successfully engage and support woman experiencing complex issues from a broad range of intellectual abilities, motivational levels, health profiles and cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Demonstrated successful engagement with women in crisis, embedding risk assessment and safety planning
  • Experience working with potentially resistant clients
  • Strong skills in team work, planning, prioritisation and administration
  • Demonstrated time management, risk and safety assessments skills and mitigation strategies.
  • Highly developed administrative and organisational skills with a willingness to maintain a comprehensive knowledge of studies, trends and training in the DFV sector
  • Knowledge of the Safe and Together Framework and Practice Standards for Domestic Violence
  • Experience in the area of child protection is preferred but not essential
  • Blue Card for Child Related Employment
