The Role

Job Title: Counsellor (Contract) Part Time

The role of the counselor is to provide clinical services to the residents of Tenacious House. The counsellor will deliver evidence-based counselling to clients with complex needs. They will work closely within a multidisciplinary team to facilitate the provision of coordinated clinical care and treatment.

The successful candidate will:
 

  • Provide attachment sensitive counselling to individuals and family inclusive counselling regarding the use and effects of trauma, mental health, drugs and other substance abuse addictions. 
  • Build strong and effective relationships with consumers and their families, creating positive expectations and confidence in treatment. 
  • Undertake a wide range of activities associated with program activity or service delivery.
  • Able to work autonomously and prioritise tasks appropriately.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, communications and referrals.
  • A demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the ability to take appropriate individual and team responsibility for the welfare of clients.  
  • Provide assertive referrals for clients with complex needs.
  • Assist, as required with the planning and co-ordination of a community program
  • Ensure legislation, standards and guidelines are being followed.
  • Provide assistance with grant applications including basic research or collection of data.
  • Assist with or provide a range of records management services 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Ongoing full accreditation under a national counselling registration board. Acceptable accrediting bodies include, but are not limited to Australian Counselling Association, AHPRA, or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (Clinical Member) 
  • Tertiary qualification in counselling or similar.
  • Minimum 2 years counselling experience.
  • Experience in trauma-informed practice and a client-centered, collaborative approach.
  • Have a current National Police Clearance.
  • Current Driver’s License. 
  • Lived experience with addiction is desirable.
