Marist180 (www.marist180.org.au) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to creating positive change for vulnerable young people and their families. Marist180 is now looking for a qualfied Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse or Social Worker to join our team who has a depth of experience in working with clients who have experienced complex trauma, within the child protection system.


The position

Use your expertise to assess and address the needs of children and young people as well as provide clinical support and training to staff within the agency. Reporting to the Senior Therapeutic Specialist, this role is a part of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDST) and works very closely with direct care staff, caseworkers and families to lead and supervise the development and delivery of a range of assessments, treatments and intervention services to Marist180 clients. You will also ensure that all decisions reflect the needs of the child or young person and are guided by principles of permanency planning.

Apart from the Therapeutic Specialist, the MDST may include the following Allied Health Professionals: Psychologist, Family Specialist, Community Engagement and Learning Officer, Lead Psychologist, Occupational Therapist and Speech Pathologist.

This role will require you to:

  • Provide therapeutic trauma informed supervision, training, support and consultation to staff, carers and volunteers in the delivery of programs for children and young people in care
  • Within the MDST, remain at the forefront of of evidence-based practice and research, and implement therapeutic models of care into service practices
  • Complete assessments based on the needs of children and young people, and collaborate with internal services and external agencies to address these needs
  • Produce clear and timely assessment reports including Behaviour Support Plans; and
  • Participate or facilitate group work sessions for young people and staff as required including Care Team meetings and Reflective Practice.

The Candidate

We are looking for a resilient and practical professional who is committed to providing therapeutic support to our young people in care through positive engagement and advocacy, working within the community towards trauma integration. To be successful, you must meet the essential criteria below:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Family counselling, Psychology or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ post graduation experience
  • Current registration with the professional peak body relevant to your qualification
  • Possess experience in working with children and young people experiencing complex trauma and working with families within the child protection system
  • Demonstrated experience in working with the issues faced by children and young people of a complex trauma background
  • Clear National Criminal History Check
  • Working with Children’s Check
  • Unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence
  • Current First Aid Certificate and CPR certification
  • Eligibility to work in Australia

Applicants who have training and experience in working in disability services, drug and alcohol, mental health and juvenile criminal justice will be highly regarded.
