About the program

Support After Suicide is an initiative of Jesuit Social Services within the Mental Health and Wellbeing stream which provides postvention support. Operating in Victoria and New South Wales, the project aims to develop; implement and document an effective service model that:

  • Responds in an effective, compassionate, appropriate and timely manner to those bereaved by suicide, focussing on families and children, and those most marginalised in our community;
  • Enhances the capacity of the health, welfare and education sectors to respond effectively to those bereaved by suicide.

About the role

This is a unique opportunity to join the team as a LGBTIQA+ Project Officer tasked with establishing and maintaining a national online discussion forum for LGBTIQA+ people who are bereaved by suicide.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the needs of people bereaved by suicide and sensitive to and understanding of the experience of LGBTIQA+ people.

Tertiary qualification/s and/or relevant experience is required

Candidate requirements

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • An organised person able to engage appropriately and sensitively with LGBTIQA+ people bereaved by suicide. Preferred applicants identify as LGBTIQA+
  • Demonstrated understanding of factors associated with higher rates of mental ill health and suicidal distress among LGBTIQA+ people
  • Experience and skill in engaging appropriately on discussion forums and social media
  • Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously in a small team
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Capacity to fulfil reporting and administrative requirements associated with the position
  • Understanding and sympathy with the mission and ethos of Jesuit Social Services and Switchboard VIC
  • Valid Working with Children Check card
  • Successful Police Check to be conducted by Jesuit Social Services prior to commencement
