Your new role

headspace are seeking an experienced Mental Health Clinician to work in their headspace offices in Devonport / Burnie. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the North West Coast of Tasmania as part of a multidisciplinary team. 

In consultation with the Clinical Lead and headspace Devonport Manager, the Mental Health Clinician:

  • Provides individual and group psychological interventions to clients as per program requirements;
  • Develops suitable and culturally-appropriate group and individual focused psychological interventions;
  • Delivers psycho-education regarding the nature of mental health and associated problems, make available information services, and avenues of access to such services.

The Clinician will form part of our mental health team and will provide focused psychological interventions with young people between the ages of 12-25. Other key relationships include other service providers, school communities and collocated services.

What you’ll need 
Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Mental Health Nursing.

  • Full AHPRA registration as a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist or Mental Health Nurse, current full membership OR eligibility for registration with AASW.
  • Demonstrated competence in the provision of a full range of mental health services including mental state and psychological assessments (e.g. crisis assessments, brief interventions), individual, family and group, treatments for young people presenting with a range of behavioural, emotional, social or developmental issues, including psychosis and alcohol/other drug issues.
  • Knowledge, experience, understanding and demonstrated passion for, and interest in, the health and welfare issues affecting young people and extensive skills and experience in assessment of young people and ability to engage with young people and their families holistically.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, culturally diverse and LGBTQIA communities

Desirable
Post graduate qualifications and/or previous experience working in the youth mental health sector and/or primary healthcare environment is desirable.
