Cyrenian House provides a wide range of high-quality treatment services that make a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of people affected by alcohol and other drugs. 

About the role

The primary role of the Counsellor Educator is to support women who have experienced AOD and a range of other issues, including family and domestic violence. 

Based in Murdoch, at the Wandoo Women’s Prison Therapeutic Community (TC) and reporting directly to the Clinical Coordinator, you will work closely with Department of Justice staff to ensure the provision of professional alcohol and other drug (AOD) group work, counselling, and education to the residents in a prison environment. Wandoo Women’s Prison TC is the only prison TC operated in Western Australia and has achieved remarkable results since its inception in 2018. Full-time role working 76 hours per fortnight. Part time hours will be considered.

To be successful in this role you will require the following key attributes:

  • Possess a degree in Social, Behavioural, Education, Health Sciences or equivalent experience and training in the AOD sector.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of “Community as Method Treatment Model”.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with consumers experiencing issues related to alcohol and other drug use.
  • Well-developed assessment and counselling skills.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Current National Police Certificate, WWCC and First Aid Certificate.
  • Full Work rights, Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Full COVID vaccination.
