ABOUT US

Gateway Health is a not-for-profit Company limited by guarantee and a registered Community Health Service under the Health Services Act 1988 (Vic).

The organisation employs over 380 staff providing a range of primary health and community services across the Ovens Murray region in North East Victoria and parts of Southern New South Wales. Gateway Health serves all people, and is committed to improving individual and population health outcomes. We will do this by providing health care and support to individuals and communities in times of need, and by actively working with our partners to address the social and environmental determinants of health.

THE ROLE

The successful candidate for the Senior Psychologist role will lead the development and implementation of the Gateway Health Psychology clinic in collaboration with the Gateway Health leadership team and consortium partners. The project is funded by the University of Melbourne and aims to increase rural health training opportunities to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in rural and remote areas.

The project supports a regional clinic where Master of Clinical/Professional Psychology students are supervised to provide individual psychological services. In addition, these clinics will support a range of service-learning placements in Occupational Therapy and Social Work to provide group interventions in communities including Corryong, Myrtleford, Bright, Mount Beauty, Mansfield, Beechworth, Chiltern, Yackandandah, Greta and Whitfield in the northeast.

The Gateway Health psychology clinic will have telehealth facilities to support service-learning interventions, increase access to student supervisors, and most importantly provide referral, access and anonymity for high-risk individuals with mental health needs extending beyond the service-learning program.

The Senior Psychologist will be required to take on a clinical load of clients to enable Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) revenue to subsidise the clinic and build in sustainability. This will be in addition to picking up client loads where required once students have finished their placements.
