Pintupi Homelands Health Service is an expanding and well equipped AGPAL accredited primary healthcare facility located in Kintore. Servicing a close-knit community of 450, the health service provides clinical services with a dedicated staff of nurses, health promotion officers, Aboriginal Health Workers, a doctor and support staff.

Emphasis is being placed on preventive health and community involvement in a commitment “to close the gap” and improve the health and well-being of the Kintore community.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Social and Emotional Wellbeing Officer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a fixed-term contract until 31 July 2023 with the opportunity for extension (dependent on government funding).

Reporting to the Health Promotion Coordinator, you will support individuals and groups to achieve change that keeps every member of the community safe.

You will deliver a client-focused, accountable and collaborative casework that respects the indigenous culture and context of each client, family and community and is based on the timely sharing of accurate information to ensure that the support meets the identified needs of the client.

What you will bring to the team

To thrive in this role, you will possess a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, Welfare, or a related discipline. Experience in the field of social work, child development, and/or child protection matters within family and community environments and an understanding of disadvantaged groups will also help you succeed in this role.

You’ll have a solid understanding of cultural safety and a commitment to the principles of Aboriginal community-controlled health services. Any experience working in remote areas or with Aboriginal communities will be highly regarded.

Moreover, you will be a go-getter with a hands-on and flexible approach. 

Respect for diverse indigenous cultures and a willingness to learn and adapt will also be essential in this role. You will engage actively as part of the community, building genuine relationships and fostering trust. As such, an outgoing and personable disposition will also be essential. 

Importantly, you’ll be a collaborative team player with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt your communication style to work effectively with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.
