Autism Partnership was established in 1998 and is dedicated to enhancing the overall quality of life of children and young people with autism by delivering comprehensive, evidence-based services. Autism Partnership provides a wide range of services for children and their families as well as training for professionals. Autism Partnership Australia has a team of more than 180 staff working across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. 

The role:

We’re looking to grow our Allied Health team with the addition of a registered Psychologist to provide a range of services for children on the autism spectrum and their families. Reporting to our National Clinical Director, this role will encompass a variety of activities including counselling and skill-building for children with ASD and their families, capacity building/consultation for school staff, and developmental and adaptive behaviour assessment. Our psychologists contribute to our intensive intervention programs by working with our Behaviour Consultants and broader multidisciplinary team to ensure our clients and their families have a strong support network throughout their journey with Autism Partnership.  

Duties & responsibilities: 

  • Conduct psychological assessments and prepare comprehensive reports for a variety of purposes and audiences (e.g., school funding, developmental assessment, NDIS)
  • Provide psychological consultation to children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, working within a family-centred, behavioural framework to define goals, develop behaviour support plans, create curriculum pathways and effectively develop new skills
  • Provide consultation and support to families to build each family member’s capacity to support their child and facilitate quality of life for the whole family
  • Work effectively with clients who have challenging behaviours, with a functional approach to understanding behaviour and an emphasis on promoting appropriate replacement skills
  • Provide school consultation, including liaising with educators to develop individualised learning programs
  • Work collaboratively with Autism Partnership colleagues and within broader multidisciplinary care teams
  • Deliver training workshops on a range of topics related to ABA and ASD
  • Train and support Behaviour Therapists working with clients of Autism Partnership
  • Work ethically and professionally and uphold all the responsibilities of a registered psychologist as outlined in the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics

Skills & experience: 

  • Hold current registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, with a background in Clinical or Educational & Developmental Psychology highly regarded
  • Experience with a varied caseload across different settings 
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with other departments
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to be flexible and adapt in an ever changing environment
  • A genuine passion and desire to make a difference in the lives of children and their families
  • A current Working with Children check
