The Role

The Family Mental Health Practitioner provides early intervention and non-clinical community mental health support for children and young people, aged up to 18 years, who are showing signs of, or are at risk of, developing mental illness. 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Provide effective and relevant counselling and/or family interventions.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of skill based educative and therapeutic programs for families.
  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders in the community.
  • Participate in continuing professional development to maintain, develop and enhance knowledge of best practice.

About You

The person we are seeking will have suitable qualifications in Social Work, Social Science or equivalent, with demonstrable experience and knowledge of child and family centred practice, child development and mental health, particularly that of vulnerable families and children from backgrounds of trauma and/or disadvantage.

You will also have:

  • 1-2 years recent experience working with children and young people
  • A current South Australian Driver’s Licence.
  • A current DHS Working With Children Check, or willing to obtain one at your own cost prior to commencement of employment.
  • Under various Emergency Management Directions currently in place in South Australia, all staff, volunteers and students who undertake work at any UCWB site or who undertake in-home and community aged care and disability support work are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Location

Just a short walk from the popular Plant 3 and Plant 4 Bowden, this role will see you based at our Central Office in Bowden, however outreach work in the North Eastern suburbs will be required.
