JOB DESCRIPTION

The AOD Outreach Coordinator supervises, supports, and mentors the Aboriginal Outreach, Methamphetamine Outreach & Sobering Up Shelter teams and is responsible for ensuring the quality delivery of a range of supportive, responsive, and quality Outreach and Sobering Up Shelter services. The position also undertakes a variety of other duties to support the efficient and effective delivery of community engagement and education activities. The AOD Coordinator will be the key liaison with regard to program delivery for the Alice Springs Correctional Centre, the Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation (ALPA) & various remote Aboriginal Communities in Central Australia.

The suitable candidate will have a sound understanding of the Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) misuse concerns of Central Australia and will be supportive of a harm reduction approach.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Outreach Case Manager file and caseload reviews
  2. Sobering Up Shelter – ensuring best practice
  3. Stakeholder liaison
  4. Community Engagement
  5. Regular review and maintenance of quality training programs
  6. Staff supervision, mentoring & support
  7. Compliance, Record Keeping, Reporting & Quality Improvement
  8. Contribute to the DASA Leadership Group

Qualifications:

  • Diploma Community Services (Alcohol and Other Drugs) – Highly Desirable 

Experience/Knowledge/Skills

Essential:

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to converse with a diverse range of clients and fellow staff.
  • Experience with leading, mentoring and supporting a team of staff to achieve best client outcomes
  • Experienced and confident with public speaking, delivery of workshops and chairing meetings
  • Proven ability to maintain absolute confidentiality in all matters.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Good computer, numeracy and literary skills.
  • Knowledge of Mandatory Reporting requirements. 
  • Committed to Occupational Health and Safety
  • Committed to Continuous Quality Improvement

Desirable:

  • Cert IV Training & Assessment (or willingness to obtain)

Other Essential Requirements

  • Current and valid Australian driver’s licence. 
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Employment subject to having, or ability to obtain, a National Police Clearance Certificate/Criminal History check.
  • Obtaining, or having the Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) NT. 
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, while fostering a harm minimisation philosophy, taking into account the need for cultural considerations.
  • Availability to travel to remote communities requiring overnight and/or extended stays.
  • Ability to role model healthy behaviours
