Social Work/Psychology Counsellor – Innovative Health Services for Homeless Youth (IHSHY)

About ECASA

ECASA provides a free counselling and advocacy services to adults and young people/children in the Eastern Region who have experienced sexual assault recently and in the past. The model of care includes the provision of crisis and short to medium term counselling, group work, professional consultation and professional and community education programs.

 

About the role

ECASA welcomes applications from appropriately qualified Social Workers or Psychologists to join our counselling team. The rewarding role requires a strong commitment to trauma-informed collaborative practice, providing counselling and advocacy services to young people (12-25 years) who have experienced sexual assault and are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This innovative position is responsible for the provision of individual counselling services as well as group work, consultation and professional and community education programs. You would be part of a supportive, experienced and hardworking team with a well embedded clinical supervision and professional development program. There is an opportunity for clinicians to increase their knowledge and experience in the sexual assault area and workers who are new to the sector are provided additional professional development opportunities in trauma and related modalities.

 

The successful applicant will be based at our Ringwood East site, but will be providing outreach services to young people to optimize their engagement with ECASA.  There may also be a requirement for intake as well as after-hours on-call duties.

 

About you

To be successful in this role you should have the following:

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Social Work or Psychology
  • Knowledge and experience in intake, and crisis and brief intervention
  • Experience in the area of sexual assault and/or youth mental health, with an understanding of trauma assessment and treatment
  • An understanding of the dynamics and impact of sexual assault related to at risk children and young people
  • Highly developed skills in engaging with young people with complex care needs and a drive to make a difference in the lives of young people
  • A respectful, compassionate, innovative and reflective approach with a passion for making a difference in the lives of those impacted by sexual assault
  • A strong team commitment
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
