What you’ll be doing

The COPMI Coordinator is a senior clinician who applies specialist clinical knowledge, experience and skills in building the capacity of the mental health service to respond to families in which one or both parent(s) experiences a mental illness. The COPMI Coordinator works in collaboration with Site Executives, Services and Care Teams to support the provision of complex mental health care and COPMI initiatives.
 
This position aims to address complex health and social needs to improve family wellbeing and health, educational and social outcomes for children, in families where a parent has a mental illness. To achieve this aim, the COPMI Coordinator:
 

• Develops, implements and evaluates initiatives to build the capacity of the mental health service to provide family focused clinical services that are responsive to the needs of children.
• Promotes prevention, early identification and early intervention for children of parents with a mental illness Develops inter-agency partnerships to promote a wrap-around approach to family focused interventions and meeting the needs of children.

 
The role requires an understanding of and ability to promote the First 2000 days (0-5years) NSW Health Strategy, including the key objectives of identifying opportunities to enhance the mental well-being of the under 5 age group, promote health, wellbeing, capacity and resilience during this and the entire age range that COPMI covers (0 – 17years).   The position will be responsible for the development of sustainable relationships with key service partners.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Please provide proof of booster vaccination if available.
 

Selection Criteria

1. Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the Health Professionals (State) Award for Occupational Therapy and Social Work with AHPRA registration for OT or eligibility to AASW for SW OR; recognised qualification in Psychology with current registration with AHPRA OR: Nursing (Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia with relevant qualifications in accordance with the Nurses’ and Midwives’ (State) Award).
2. Demonstrated extensive experience in mental health working with children and young people 0-17 years of age, their families and carers.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in health promotion, training and education, specialist early intervention programs and/or understanding of and participation in community development programs.
4. Comprehensive understanding of family focused care and state COPMI planning initiatives, the developmental concerns for children and young people affected by a parent(s) with mental health illness.
5. Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively interpersonally and professionally during liaison, consultation, training, education, or program promotion and networking.
6. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation, quality improvement processes, recording activity and reporting.
7. Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision whilst maintaining involvement within the wider multidisciplinary team.
8. Current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence (P1 or above) and willingness to use same for work purposes.
