Counsellor Level 3 – ($53.00- $54.44 per hour)  
Social Worker Level 3 - ($53.00- $54.44 per hour)  
Senior Psychologist – ($56.32 – $61.17 per hour)

What you will be doing: 
Do you have a passion for working with young people and their families to improve their mental health? A great opportunity working as a Family Therapist has arisen at Nepean Hospital. 
 
The Family Therapist will engage young people and their families, in brief intervention, case management, and family based counselling interventions within a harm minimisation framework. The core functions of this position are to:

  • Provide evidence based family therapy and case management for young people and their families experiencing drug & alcohol issues.
  • Facilitate the development of case management plans in consultation with all relevant parties including addiction medicine specialists and best practice models.
  • Provide referral for young people with drug & alcohol issues to appropriate support services and group work programs.
  • Help develop and facilitate group work programs as required (in conjunction with other services).
  • Provide support for other staff (mainstream drug & alcohol, Youth Sector etc.) in relation to youth drug and alcohol issues.
  • Support education and health improvements initiatives for young people experiencing drug and alcohol issues and develop links and partnerships both internal and external to the Local Health District

Selection Criteria to be addressed:

  1. A recognised qualifications in social work, psychology, counselling or equivalent as deemed by the health service and eligibility for membership with relevant professional.
  2. Demonstrated clinical experience working with adolescents/young people and their families utilising evidence based individual and family focused interventions.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of theoretical frameworks underlying youth and family interventions.
  4. Demonstrated partnership building and negotiation skills with a wide range of service providers and well developed understanding of the interface between services.
  5. Evidence of an advanced level of verbal/written communication skills, analytical and interpersonal skills, and experience with electronic Medical Records, and the ability to apply these skills within a Youth Drug and Alcohol Service setting.
  6. Demonstrated advanced reasoning skills with proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a medically led multidisciplinary team.
  7. Experience in, or commitment to, working with individuals and families from Aboriginal backgrounds and/or diverse cultural backgrounds.
  8. Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
