Family Support Role Kummara

JOB DESCRIPTION

Kummara Ltd. is an Indigenous organisation established in 1999 to provide support to vulnerable families at risk. The organisation’s objective is to support the long-term wellbeing and resilience of Indigenous children and families.

Kummara offers many programs and works in partnership with families for the achievement of independence and strengthening of the family’s capabilities. We believe in the strengths of family and community and have developed a strong reputation for engaging and supporting our community. .

KEY DUTIES

The role of the Family Support Practitioner is to:

  • Provide culturally sensitive and competent practice and resources to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families.
  • Maintain a case load of client families and deliver individual case work, groups and community projects
  • Identify family needs using specified assessment tools and undertake screening and assessment of risks and needs of children and young people
  • Provide advocacy, information, advice, referral and linkage to relevant services, as appropriate to the assessed level of need
  • Regularly attend and participate in case consultations
  • Maintain positive relationships with government, NGO and community organisations to ensure collaboration with other agencies and an integrated approach
  • Maintain accurate records, report writing and data entry requirements in line with professional standards

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful you will possess:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or significant community experience in the fields related to this area of work e.g. Family Support, Child Protection, Human Services, Social Work, Psychology.
  • Demonstrated intermediate ability to use computer IT systems including MS Word and Excel.
  • Queensland Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required.
  • Provide evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination (in consideration of required duties under work health and safety legislation, including relevant public health orders)
