About the role

The Way Back Support Service (WBSS) is a non-clinical support service providing practical psychosocial support to people experiencing a suicidal crisis or who have attempted suicide. WBSS works in conjunction with Bendigo Health’s HOPE program to support referred clients using a model governed by Beyond Blue and Mind’s Model of Recovery Oriented Practice to reduce the risk of reattempts. The service supports clients to get their lives back on track, build capacity to manage distress, improve mental wellbeing, connect with families and carers, and develop links with clinical and community services.

 

We are seeking a resilient, compassionate Community Mental Health Practitioner for an 8 month fixed term, full time opportunity to work within a close knit team in the Bendigo area. You will be responsible for providing positive psychosocial, recovery-orientated outreach services to clients following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis to enhance recovery, build capacity, improve wellbeing, and develop connections with families, carers, services providers and the community.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality outreach services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Support clients to reinstate their wellbeing, remain in their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
  • Provide information and mentoring to clients to establish connections with families and carers, create networks and access to relevant services.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid clients to build their skills and focus on recovery.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client’s recovery goals.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, suicidal ideations and attempt, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
