About the role

headspace Schools & Communities, works to reduce the rates of youth suicide and improve mental health outcomes among Australian secondary school students and their community.

An exciting opportunity exists for a qualified professional with experience in influencing change and working in collaborative partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders. This newly created role complements the broader headspace Schools & Communities programs and holds a strong focus on all age, all stage prevention, detection and response to risk and vulnerability in NSW regions impacted by floods. The NSW Flood Support Program provides experienced resources across NSW to support the coordination of local and national agencies to implement a collective impact collaboration model, working alongside Local Health Districts, Primary Health Networks, and existing key local agencies including local councils.

Under the direction and leadership of the headspace Schools & Communities Program Manager, this exciting and diverse position will assist in identifying and engaging with stakeholders, assist in developing content required for resource packages, and coordinating and supporting stakeholders to build capacity through evidence based strategies for community disaster and recovery.

This is a time limited funded program. This is a long-term contract until 30 June 2024, in line with our funding term.

Who we’re looking for

headspace is seeking someone with a tertiary qualification in education, public health promotion, community development and/or mental health, or equivalent combination of relevant training.

The position calls for an individual who is motivated and has exceptional interpersonal skills who can engage, liaise and negotiate with a broad range of stakeholders and organisations. Furthermore, you will have significant experience in influencing change and working in collaborative partnerships with school leadership teams and/or education authorities, local community agencies and other stakeholders. You will have experience in developing content for resource packages and will possess an understanding of youth mental health issues including suicide postvention, suicide, trauma and recovery and community disaster resilience and recovery

  1. Please detail your tertiary qualification in education (including qualification in adult education), public health promotion, community development and or mental health, or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
  2. Please outline your experience with, and working knowledge of, mental health issues and impacts on young people and their families.
  3. Please outline what experience you have in influencing change and working in collaboration with stakeholders
  4. Describe what is your knowledge of common social and mental health issues faced by young people and experienced by school communities, including suicide, suicide postvention, self-harm and trauma
  5. Describe what are some of the key considerations when developing training sessions and resource packages in disaster recovery contexts

To be eligible for this position you must

  • Have the right to live and work in Australia
  • Have a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent, and/or pass all of the WWCC(s) required for this role (please note that for some roles, headspace requires WWCCs for other State/Territories in addition to your Home State)
  • Satisfactorily undergo a headspace Police Check
  • Have proof and be up to date with your Covid-19 vaccinations in accordance with the headspace COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Policy and any Government directives
  • A current driver’s licence (automatic) and use of a fully maintained motor vehicle with comprehensive insurance
  • Ability to travel and work outside of hours as required.
