Trauma Assist is a provider of specialist trauma-informed counselling and psycho-education grounded in supporting individuals who have been impacted by sexual abuse, intergenerational trauma, and domestic and family violence.

Key Counselling Activities and Responsibilities

  • Engage with individuals in a professional, caring empathetic manner and work with them to develop a goal focused pathway to recover from trauma or related conditions. 
  • Engage with clients face to face at office premises or via tele-counselling. 
  • Utilise skills, expertise, and experience to build rapport with clients and establish a collaborative partnership.
  • Engage with clients, during the initial session through to session three, to complete an in-depth Client Recovery Plan with a view to working toward the expressed goal or outcome for the client. 
  • Advocate with, or on behalf, of clients where appropriate, particularly with police, the judicial and medical systems.
  • Liaise with external agencies, client support networks, referral partners and other necessary individuals and groups to provide support and services that enable clients to achieve their stated goal or outcome. 
  • Undertake triage and emergency sessions as required. 

 

Key Requirements:

  • Hold, as a minimum, a Diploma in Counselling. 
  • Have a minimum of two years counselling experience where a minimum of one year is with the same organisation.
  • Have counselling experience with a broad range of age groups from children through to adults.
  • Have a strong command of the written English language and be able to demonstrate this through a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test during recruitment. 
  • Be able to demonstrate a dedication to professional development – formal or informal.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to review, and quality check, your own written and data entry work. 
  • Experience in client management and a high level of time management. 
  • Be able to demonstrate a strong capacity to empathise with individuals who have experienced significant trauma. 

 

Additional requirements

  • Possession of a current, full Queensland Drivers Licence (C Class).
  • Willing to go through a Criminal History check.
  • Possess a current Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian suitability (Blue) card or ability to obtain.
