Social Worker/ Rehab Counsellor Full Time or Part Time EL1 and APS6 Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman

JOB DESCRIPTION

We have genuine EL1 and APS6 vacancies for people with backgrounds in social work/rehabilitation counselling or similar. There are several positions for suitably qualified and experienced staff for non-ongoing appointments for 2 years with possibility of extension.

These roles will be key to the continued delivery of the Defence Abuse reparation scheme and the restorative engagement conference program. You will be given the opportunity to develop and present your key skills in liaising with reportees to the scheme; managing staff; and developing and delivering quality assured, trauma informed service delivery.

We are a small team within the Commonwealth Ombudsman’s Office who work directly with Defence to deliver a reparation and restorative engagement scheme. This is an interesting and creative time to join this team as we are halfway through the life of the scheme. We are looking to build on our best practices and to develop meaningful, quality assured outcomes moving forward.

We are looking to develop case management systems, training and best practice programs within the restorative engagement and reflective pieces of work on cultural change in Defence.

There is potential across these multiple roles for part-time work including positions not based in Canberra. We are keen to speak with experienced practitioners with a solid management and administrative background for these exciting roles. Part of the role involves administrative tasks such as supporting reportees through a legislative process via email and telephone. Other parts of the role involves supporting all aspects of the creation of restorative engagement conferences.

Please send us your CV and a one-page pitch to defencefor[email protected] addressing the following key skills and experience:

  • Qualifications in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 5 years of practice including working with clients with a history of trauma
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a high-volume administrative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a legislative environment whilst practically applying trauma informed principles
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage staff
  • Ability to work unsupervised

Previous experience working with Defence or Veterans would be an advantage.

Applicants must be Australian citizens.

If you would like to discuss these roles, please send an email with your contact details to [email protected].

Applications close at 5 pm AEDT on Thursday 20th October 2022..
