About the role

The Victims Assistance Program (VAP) program is based within the cohealth Child, Youth, Family & Aged Directorate.

The VAP is funded through the Department of Justice and Regulation and is primarily a case management service for victims of crime against the person and related victims of homicide.

The program is based in Footscray, but also provides services through Police Station co-locations at Werribee, Sunshine and Melton.

The Intake and Brief Response Worker sits within the Intake and Brief Response function of the VAP and is a skilled worker who provides an assessment, immediate response, and triage service for victims of crime against the person, primarily by telephone engaging and assessing eligibility, risk and priority as well as responding to immediate needs of clients.

Your duties include:

  • Provide a telephone intake service to clients seeking the services of the Victims Assistance Program
  • Document client assessment, care plan, intervention, progress, and actions on cohealth’s electronic client management system
  • Provide, when needed, trauma informed case management to victims of crime, particularly those of a serious and/or complex nature
  • Provide handover to other intake and brief response workers, Team Leaders, the Program Manager, and case managers as required

Our ideal candidate:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work with eligibility to membership of the AASW or an equivalent qualification
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering an intake service with associated skills in the provision of psycho education and support, detailed assessments, and appropriate referrals.
  • Comprehensive understanding of issues for people affected by violent crime, grief, and traumatic bereavement.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the social and gendered context of family violence
  • Experience in and/or understanding of collaborating with the police and the criminal justice system
