Act for Kids is a prominent provider of prevention, professional therapy and support services for children who have suffered abuse and support for families at risk. With over 25 centres nationally, we have supported thousands of children and their families for more than 30 years. In 2020 – 2021 we provided services to 40,360 people, including over 25,900 children.

About the job…

We are seeking a Full Time Family Support Practitioner to join our caring, compassionate and friendly team in Rockhampton until 30 June 2025.

Extension of employment contract beyond this date is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program.

About the service…

• Deliver an outreach model of case management to families with the aim of improving child safety.
• Facilitate social learning, community connectedness, good health and wellbeing.
• Engage families, obtain consent and develop a case plan with the family which addresses child protection concerns.
• Work with other professionals and agencies utilising an ecological model.
• Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure family goals are achieved.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and service a case load of client families.
• Use a variety of tools to assess each family member’s strengths and worries.
• Develop, implement and regularly review case plans that address worries and build on strengths.
• Identify, co-ordinate and lead stakeholder groups to develop, implement and review single case plans.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date data entry records in required databases.

About you…

• A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (social work, human services, allied health).
• Professional registration (if required).
• Membership of a relevant professional association (desirable).
• Experience providing case-management and therapeutic services to families, caregivers, young people and children in a child protection framework.
• Cultural awareness and an understanding of how to communicate and work effectively with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• An understanding of current child protection legislation and policy reforms.

About the pay…

• Position is classified Level 4.1 – 4.4 under the SCHCADS award;
• Salary range is $77,584 – $83,486 plus superannuation (pro-rata for part-time);
• In addition, as a registered Not for Profit/Charity, we offer excellent salary packaging options through RemServ which can significantly increase your take home pay.
