JOB DESCRIPTION

Marist College Ashgrove is a Catholic day and boarding school for boys in Years 5-12, situated in Brisbane’s inner Northern suburbs. Inspired by the work of St Marcellin Champagnat, we pride ourselves on delivering excellent academic and career pathway results for our inclusive community of students.

The College is seeking a committed and dedicated Counsellor. This is a full-time, fixed-term position, for the duration of the 2023 school year, replacing a staff member on approved leave.

As a College Counsellor, you will work to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviourally and emotionally. You will collaborate with the other College psychologists, school staff, parents and other external professionals where appropriate to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school and the community for all students.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified counsellor or psychologist, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role. They will possess effective relationship building and influencing skills; advanced interpersonal and communication skills; proven and effective leadership skills; and will be committed to the values and ethos of the Catholic faith. Experience working in a school or educational setting would be highly advantageous.

Selection Criteria:

These will be used by the selection panel to evaluate applicants. Please respond succinctly to each of the following:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in guidance and counselling;
  2. Demonstrated competence and capacity to develop and implement guidance and counselling programmes for staff and students in a 5 – 12 College;
  3. Demonstrated competence and capacity to develop effective relationships and partnerships with students, staff, parents and the wider community;
  4. Demonstrated competence and capacity to interpret psycho-educational reports and collaboratively develop appropriate interventions to optimise student learning;
  5. Demonstrated commitment to Marist values and Ethos and the broader life of a College or school;
  6. Capacity to contribute to the co-curricular program of the College

Essential Qualifications & Licenses

  • Have a current Positive Notice Blue Card.
  • A current National Police check.
  • Full registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or relevant qualifications with significant experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to interpret psychometric assessments (Eg. WISC-V). Ability to administer psychometric assessment is ideal.
  • Degree relevant to the position, including academic qualifications in a range of guidance, counselling and psychological studies.
