Jarrah House is a residential drug and alcohol treatment facility catering for women and women with their children. We provide medicated and non-medicated detoxification programs and support opioid treatment programs. Our focus is a 10-week, trauma informed, residential treatment program for women who require the skills to prevent relapse and prepare for in-depth therapeutic work. THE ROLE:

We are a team of counsellors, nurses, social workers, childcare workers and administrative staff. We provide holistic care and support to alcohol and other drug consumers in a peaceful residential setting on country which has long been known as a place of healing.

The AOD Counsellor is a degree-qualified Counsellor or Social Worker with skills to provide Case Management to women in treatment and plan transfer of care for their ongoing journey. You will play a key role within the clinical team, responsible for improving client outcomes, treatment goals, and collaborating with team members to deliver effective therapeutic interventions for women in both an individual and group setting.

Often operating as one of two on-site clinical staff, the AOD Counsellor supports the environmental and psychosocial needs of Jarrah House residents. The role also collaborates with nursing staff to assist with the supervision of detoxification and rehabilitation of women and their children, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation.

Key accountabilities for the role include:

  • Undertake group facilitation, leading the activity either as a sole practitioner or as part of a small team.
  • Understand case management and intake assessment processes and techniques, contributing to those processes specifically in the context of addiction and mental health.
  • Undertake triage counselling.
  • Ability to manage a group of clients with complex psychosocial issues which present in the context of addiction treatment.
  • Implement the Program Schedule for the delivery of the therapeutic program.
  • Collaborate with others on the collection of data for reporting or research purposes.
  • Demonstrate a values-driven operating style and a commitment to working collaboratively to deliver Jarrah House’s mission and achievement of the organisation’s longer-term goals.

Key selection criteria:

  • Degree in Counselling or Social Work or other relevant tertiary qualifications in human services.
  • Commitment to comply with the legislative framework applicable to the role.
  • The right to live and work in Australia.
  • Criminal Record Check clearance.
  • Working with Children Check clearance.
  • COVID-19 and other infectious disease vaccinations, in accordance with Public Health Orders and policies applicable to NSW Health Care Workers, also apply.
