Health, Safety and Wellbeing Co-ordinator John L Pierce

JOB DESCRIPTION

Family-owned business requires an experienced Health, Safety & Wellbeing Co-ordinator. You will be exposed to all aspects of health and safety, including workers compensation and return to work programs.

You will be responsible for maintaining safety management systems and ensuring compliance by remaining proactive in your approach to the workplace.

We are looking for someone that has passion for workplace health & safety and ideally has experience within the road transport (heavy vehicles).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the health, safety, and wellbeing for all employees.
  • Conduct employee/ contractor inductions as required.
  • Develop and recommend new procedures and approaches to safety and loss prevention based on reports of incidents, accidents and other data gathered.
  • Engage with our insurer in managing workers compensation claims and assist injured workers with their return to the workplace.
  • Ensure that drug and alcohol testing is conducted and in accordance to relevant testing requirements.
  • Ensure that driver medicals are conducted and comply to the standards.
  • Ensure that each depot has sufficient first aid officers.
  • Ensure that each depot has sufficient fire wardens and training exercises are conducted regularly;
  • Manage consultative arrangements.
  • Conduct safety inspections/ audits.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum qualification – Cert IV WHS;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of WHS Act/ Regulation and relevant Codes of Practice.
  • Knowledge of hazard/ risk management principles.
  • Ability to identify safety issues and prepare a plan to achieve goals.
  • Ability to work with groups of workers to develop and safety performance improvement strategies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a computer and MS Office applications.
  • Have conducted State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA)
    return to work coordination training (or willing to obtain).
  • Current drivers licence to enable travel to all JLP facilities (as required);
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Have initiative, can set priorities, plan your workload and achieve objectives using your time management skills.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday with some flexibility around start and finish times.
