What you’ll be doing

The Integrated Violence Prevention & Response Service (IVPRS) is responsible for strategic leadership, clinical service provision and capacity building for the portfolio areas of sexual assault, domestic violence and child protection.

The Sexual Assault Crisis Support counsellor is primarily responsible for the provision of crisis support for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, including the provision of crisis counselling, short term case management, advocacy & support and facilitation of forensic/medical services as required.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications:  Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling.

Registration:  Eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership.

Selection Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualification (minimum bachelor’s degree) in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or Graduate Certificate in Human & Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma) and eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership.
  2. Demonstrated counselling experience in complex trauma and trauma informed practice within a Violence, Abuse & Neglect setting (e.g. sexual assault, child protection or domestic violence services).
  3. Demonstrated assessment, case management and counselling skills with children, young people and adults.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of the inter-related dynamics and effects of sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect and domestic violence and a commitment to integrated models for working with clients who have experienced trauma and abuse.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of intergenerational trauma and the principles of cultural safety, with experience in (or commitment to) providing culturally responsive services to individuals and families.
  6. Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated capacity to work with in collaboration and partnership with a wide range of key internal and external stakeholders.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of the legal systems, legislation and policies & procedures relating to violence, abuse and neglect.
  8. Current NSW Driver’s License.
