ABOUT THE ROLE
You will be accountable for welfare services oversight, direct counsellor and student support, guidance and expert advice to all levels of the organisation. It is also responsible for first response to critical incidents, crisis management and follow up services to at risk students.
This role provides direct support to students through class talks, presentations, workshops, resource creation, and support to educators to service the needs of the student body from both proactive and reactive approaches to problem solving.
A key focus for the role is the coordination and delivery of support during critical incidents and crisis presentations across the organisation. Regularly supporting at-risk students from diverse backgrounds (including under the age of 18), handling sensitive, complex and demanding scenarios involving multiple stakeholders.
The incumbent is a key and active participant of the Student Support and Engagement team and provides expertise to colleagues across the organisation, students and external support service providers. The position also requires the astute handling of sensitive, complex and demanding scenarios involving multiple stakeholders, and situations of a politically sensitive nature.
Your key accountabilities will be to:
- Lead with advice, support and debriefing services to Student Support & Engagement staff around all student wellbeing issues. Provide advice and logical approaches to crisis in progress and post crisis incidents to students, in line with the crisis management procedures of Chisholm Institute.
- Mentor, coach, monitor and support team members and staff to apply best practice methods and wellbeing support to students
- Act as a thought leader and specialist context-relevant problem solver to support delivery departments and improve the student experience across all Chisholm delivery areas
- Display adept specialist skills and exceptional communication to advise, inform, educate, influence, and modify student critical incident response mechanisms to ensure the wellbeing and support of students in future best practice models
- Work collaboratively with business areas, including those that have a youth cohort, to ensure a consistent approach across the organisation.
- Assist Team Leader – Student Support and Wellbeing to develop and implement a supervision and mentoring framework to support and train other counselling staff within the Student Support & Engagement Team
ABOUT YOU
- You will have a relevant graduate qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or related fields; with substantial experience and management expertise in clinical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Eligible for registration or membership with PACFA, ACA or AASW
Crucial to your success will be your proven track record of:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a psychologist/counsellor/welfare provider to high risk clients requiring case management, referral, crisis and reactive support service
- Apply nuanced and expert problem solving skills to counselling, crisis and welfare support services
- Supervision of staff or volunteers related to counselling, crisis or welfare support services
- Case management expertise and experience
- Relevant knowledge of local community, government and private welfare support services
