Family Support Specialist – Moreton Bay Save the Children Australia

JOB DESCRIPTION

Every person has the right to live in safety, and yet domestic and family violence is a regular occurrence in Australia. Help us do our part to change this reality in Moreton. 54 Reasons is one of the largest providers of DFV refuge services in Queensland – be part of this dynamic network of teams working together to deliver high quality support.

54 Reasons is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We’re ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children’s rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We’ve been working with families and communities in Queensland as a trusted support for children for nearly 70 years. More information on our work in Queensland is available here.

Where you come in:

In this part time, fixed term position (9 days per fortnight, through to end of June 2023, with strong potential for extension) based in Moreton Bay, you’ll work within a team to provide case management and safety planning support to women and children who are escaping or experiencing domestic violence, within the refuge accommodation program. Working a 9-day fortnight in addition to some minimal rostered on-call responsibilities, you’ll be part of our Domestic and Family Violence team and report to the Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Facilitating the provision of safe accommodation to women and children escaping domestic and family violence
  • Conducting thorough risk and needs assessments, within a trauma informed case management framework
  • Working with families to source appropriate, safe and sustainable accommodation free from violence and/or connecting families with services to meet their needs

Does this sound like you?

You’re an experienced domestic and family violence practitioner with high levels of initiative and flexibility alongside cultural sensitivity and knowledge. You’re able to respond calmly and effectively in crisis and complex situations. Importantly, you possess a thorough understanding of the impact of domestic violence on women and children and are able to apply that within a trauma-informed practice framework.

This role requires:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology or relevant Human Service Qualification and/or significant experience in a similar service
  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic and family violence, including the impact on children
  • Experience working with families from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Current drivers’ license

Working at 54 Reasons is more than just a job.

It’s the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:

  • Festive leave in addition to regular leave benefits
  • Individual learning plans to assist in your career development
  • EBA rate salary (slightly above SCHADS Level 4.1) plus full salary packaging benefits
  • Professional supervision training and monthly supervision sessions
  • Friendly and flexible work environment

Sound interesting?

We’d love to hear from you. Submit your cover letter (addressing the role requirements above) and resume by clicking on one of the buttons in the ‘Apply’ section.

Applications close on Monday 31st October 2022.
