Job Description

Student Health, Counselling and Wellbeing offers students, and staff, a range of support services including counselling, chaplaincy, student safety and health services. These services are voluntary, confidential, and professional, and reflect the diversity of our shared learning community. Student Health, Counselling and Wellbeing also provides advice to senior officers on matters relating to student safety and wellbeing.

The Head, Counselling and Wellbeing leads a team of high performing skilled clinicians providing a range of counselling, mental health and wellbeing programs and services (including e-services) to students and staff across our campuses.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Practice standards, caseload management, policy development and quality assurance of counselling and wellbeing services 
  • Identify and implement strategic initiatives which contribute to an effective and inclusive learning environment for students
  • Provide advice to stakeholders regarding the provision of quality counselling and wellbeing services
  • Contribute to the University’s Student Mental Health Strategy, including supervision of clinical response to presenting concerns
  • Develop resources and collateral in support of mental health and student wellbeing campaigns
  • Participate in the planning, review, reflective and constructive evaluation, research, and development activities of the work group

What we can offer
This is a continuing, full time position based at the Nathan campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

Commencement date of this role will be 23 January 2023.

The full time equivalent salary will be HEW Level 10 $125,781 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be $147,164 per annum.

About you

  • A skilled clinical practitioner with high level leadership capability developed in clinical settings
  • Demonstrated ability in managing a clinical environment, with proven experience in developing and implementing strategic policies and processes which reflect best practice
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to interact effectively with a diverse stakeholder group, including senior officers, external bodies, university staff and students
  • Maintain currency of knowledge of best practice within the sector; collaborate with external bodies to enhance services for students and staff
  • Ability to prioritise workload of self and others to achieve outcomes

Applicants must hold a Postgraduate qualification or equivalent in a relevant area (psychology, social work, counselling) and extensive relevant experience and registration, or eligibility for registration, with an appropriate professional association.
