Refuge Victoria is seeking a full time Specialist Children’s Worker as part of the Pathways to Resilience program. Refuge Victoria is a not-for-profit Specialist Family Violence Organisation providing services to women and children supporting them to escape control, abuse and violence and rebuild their lives. We have been responding to family violence and changing people’s stories for over 40 years. We are the largest provider of refuge/crisis accommodation in Victoria with 3 core and cluster refuges, 15 crisis properties and nomination rights to 35 Transitional Houses. And we deliver therapeutic responses to women and children affected by family violence. We are funded by the Department of Families Fairness and Housing and the generous support of donors.

The Role

The Specialist Children’s worker has the primary responsibility to provide specialist therapeutic support to ensure young people and families are safe, heal from their experience of family violence and develop resilience into the future.

Therapeutic interventions vary in intensity, duration and flexibility and include building parent/carer trust to talk about the impact of trauma and family violence on the child and provide ongoing support to parents/carers and the support team to always meet the needs of the child and young person.

The outcome of therapeutic interventions is to assist long term recovery and well being by rebuilding confidence, self-esteem and reducing social isolation.

About You

Tertiary level qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or Community Services.

The Successful Candidate will need the following:

• Experience in delivering therapeutic responses to children and families

• Current police check

• Working with children’s check

• COVID -19 Vaccinated
