Anglicare WA is the lead agency in the expansion of the StandBy Support After Suicide Service across Western Australia. This program is one of Australia’s leading suicide postvention responses, dedicated to supporting and building capacity in people and communities affected by suicide.

About the role
The StandBy Support After Suicide Coordinator is responsible for delivering a high quality and responsive service to individuals, couples, families and groups who have been impacted by suicide. You will develop StandBy plans for the region you are based in, including mapping effective referral pathways and building strong and wide community networks. You will effectively promote the StandBy service throughout the region to build local community awareness. You will deliver culturally appropriate interventions including initial support and brief counselling to people bereaved by suicide, assisting them in dealing with immediate needs presenting, and access other supports needed within the community. You will develop and deliver community education in the areas of grief, loss and bereavement to build community capacity.
The strength of StandBy Support After Suicide lies in the coordinated response it provides to clients to help them navigate and access the supports they need. You will have exceptional interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders such as Police, Department of Communities, Department of Health and local community leaders. You will also lead the local StandBy Support Team that engages in the aftermath of a suspected suicide to coordinate the response, including debriefing support to this team.
You will be responsible for providing a service across your entire region and this will involve frequent travel to build community relationships and promote the service. The role also requires a high level of flexibly to ensure that the service responds in a timely way to client need, and this will from time to time involve a service response outside normal working hours.
We are seeking to fill 1 FTE to provide service in the Great Southern and Wheatbelt regions of Western Australia. This role could be located in Albany or another area within this region and the role is maximum term until 30 June 2023 with a possibility of extension.
About you
To achieve success in this role you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in community development, social work, counselling or related social science area (or equivalent demonstrated practical experience)
- Experience in delivering direct support to people in crisis, assessing their specific needs, and working closely with local service providers to ensure clients can access what they need
- Ability to deliver training and education to community members and groups
- Demonstrated ability to build strong and collaborative partnerships with external stakeholders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people
- Ability to work effectively independently, including conducting outreach visits, managing own work priorities and leading a service response across a wide region.
- Skills and experience in responding to trauma and suicide bereavement will be highly regarded
The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Check and a WA Driver’s Licence.

Remuneration and Benefits
- Full time salary per annum of $95,691 plus 10.5% superannuation
- Salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 per annum
- Additional 3 days (pro-rata) leave between Christmas and New Year
- Access to purchase leave
