We are the largest, most comprehensive Aboriginal Medical Health Service in Queensland, and Australia’s second oldest. As a key member of the ATSICHS Brisbane team, the Family Counsellor is expected to personally contribute to the shaping and achievement of ATSICHS vision and goals within their own scope. The Family Counsellor will provide three (3) Key Functions
Role Functions
Provide a range of assessed social and wellbeing counselling supports to families in meeting their holistic needs. Supports will be goal driven and focussed on building the resiliency and capacity of families that will operate through an in-home outreach capacity.
Organisational Contributions
Facilitate the delivery of effective group based mental health and wellbeing programs that are engaging, exciting and provide a warm relationship into further support. The Family Counsellor will facilitate group wellbeing programs across a range of target topics and approaches.
Contribute to the Development of a Flourishing Team
Support fellow staff in a team environment to build collegiality and a sense of belongingness within the team and ATSICHS family. Staff will actively participate in team activities and contribute to a flourishing workplace culture that promotes the ethos and values of ATSICHS Brisbane as a long standing Aboriginal Community Controlled Organization.
Essential:
- Bachelor qualification in either Psychology/Social Work/Human Services/Behavioural Science or Counselling
- Demonstrated ability to apply a high level of clinical judgement and to prepare and present accurate reports relating to the outcome assessment and mental health wellbeing intervention of a client.
- Ability to work with a culturally and socially diverse group of clients, and to apply a culturally responsive framework to guide interventions, with the support of staff and management.
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in the application of a variety of efficacious, scientifically-based mental health wellbeing treatment approaches for clients whose presenting problems include: identity and stolen generational issues, suicidal ideation/behaviour and self-harm, drug and/or alcohol abuse, long-term responses to trauma, and behavioural problems.
- Demonstrated ability to administer mental health wellbeing assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of direction and to effectively communicate with and work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and to contribute to the development of creative and innovative programs of mental health wellbeing.
- Demonstrated experience in overseeing and coordinating case management processes and procedures.
- A willingness to travel across the ATSICHS Brisbane region of services and work across different sites.
- A willingness to provide therapeutic supports and engagement to patients outside of a clinic environment.
- Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply.
- Has experience in delivering a range of programs to Fist Nation families that promotes the clients cultural healing journey. Has experience in delivering Dadirri or similar deep listening activities, empowering women and survivors of domestic abuse groups, healthy relationships for young people and or men’s behaviour change cultural groups.
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Development and delivery of educational and/or wellbeing group programs.
