The Position

St John of God Social Outreach South West Community Alcohol and Drug Service offers easily accessible counselling and support for people with drug and alcohol issues and their families free of charge throughout Western Australia?s south west communities. Working in line with industry best practice, our Drug and Alcohol Counsellors provide assessment, ongoing case management, referral and follow-up for clients seeking assistance with substance use issues.

We are now inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced Alcohol and Drug Counsellors to join our dedicated and hardworking team. This position is responsible for providing assessment, ongoing case management, referral and follow-up for clients seeking assistance with substance use issues. This may involve brief interventions, counselling, initiating and managing planned treatment options, consultation and referral to other agencies or crisis management.

We have a permanent full-time position available working 76 hours per fortnight. Job sharing will be considered for this position.

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Possession of an appropriate qualification in a recognised mental health profession and eligibility for membership of the relevant professional organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management in a mental health, drug and alcohol or generalist setting.
  • Understanding and commitment to a harm minimization approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and the ability to work in a professional manner without direct daily supervision.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience liaising and networking with a range of services in particular Courts, Human Services and Health agencies.
